Thought Process...........household trifles

One day I was travelling in a bus in the evening peak hours. As I had nothing to do, I was going through the conversation I had with one of my colleagues before I left the office for that day. The prologue of that conversation goes like this. ‘He loves a girl from a different region (of course from the same state). He asked his Mom to approach the girl’s parents to discuss marriage. The grounds for his Mom’s rejection are that the women in the region from which the girl hails are stubborn and dominating.’ On hearing this, I was perplexed (not to mention that I am from the same region). What bothered me is a question. "When are women called dominating? " My inquisitive mind came up with two questions as answers. The first is ‘Is it when women don’t give their partner a chance to say?’ The second is ‘Is it when women take a right decision in the family they strive for’.
Unfortunately, the answer for the both the questions is ‘yes’. The female partner in every household takes up the responsibility of maintaining the house, grooming the children, working to support financially. Then what is wrong if she takes a right decision on behalf of her family. If a guy listens to his Mom, he will be tagged with all the good adjectives known. If the same guy listens to his wife, he will be tagged ‘hen-pecked’. In this 21st century where women empowerment is rising, their sub-ordinate positions continue to prevail in the households. But, the sad part is the person who opposes her struggle in the household to break the shackles is a female. I am not generalizing my ideas. But, these are the things most women in India come across in their day-to-day life. When we raise our voice against traditional conservatism for equal rights and recognition, let us be united among ourselves supporting each other. I am not a feminist, but a moderate person who believe that extremity has nothing to do with gender, caste, region and religion.
